KYC (Know Your Customer) is a one-time identity verification required by SEBI for every mutual fund investor. Done once through a KRA, it works across every AMC in India. Most of the back-and-forth we see comes down to one of five documents being missing or unclear.
1. PAN card
Mandatory, no exceptions. A clear colour scan or photo, all four corners visible.
2. Proof of address
Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, driving licence or a recent utility bill. If you are sending Aadhaar, mask the first eight digits — only the last four should be visible on any copy you share.
3. A recent photograph
Plain background, face clearly visible, taken within the last few months.
4. A specimen signature
Signed on plain white paper, in black or blue ink — this is compared against your signature on future transaction requests.
5. Bank proof
A cancelled cheque, or a bank statement that clearly shows your name, account number and IFSC code.
Nominee details are not part of KYC itself but are worth keeping ready at the same time — registering a nominee at the folio stage saves your family real difficulty later.
